Dave Winthrop - Saxaphone |
DAVE WINTHROP was born in the first half of the previous century in New Jersey U.S.A. He tells me that his earliest memory is of joyrideing in Bruce Springsteen's convertible pedal car, only to be turned back on the way to Philadelphia by Frank Sinatra on his sports bike. Alcatraz being deemed to soft an option, he was sent to an english public school, which he took to like a duck to water, as long as you are trying to drown the duck in a urinal whilst chanting 'yanks go home.' He first met Stan Webb in the mid sixties recording a John Peel session and playing a few gigs with Chicken Shack. The call came to join Supertramp and in 1973 it was off to Switzerland for a few years. Every so often Dave would bump into Stan on the road, and when he left Supertramp he sort of drifted into Chicken Shack, recording 'The Creeper' and constantly touring until 1979 when he left to concentrate on session work. Around this time he became involved with Arista Records, and through this connection worked with The Stray Cats, The Beat, The Ruts, Richard Strange, Jonathan Perkins and Secret Affair, touring the world and appearing on numerous TV shows. In 1986 the chance to play with Stan again was too good to miss, so Dave rejoined again, only leaving to work with Dave Stewart, and receiving a near fatal wound in the Bahamas for his trouble. After a lengthy period convalescing Dave returned to session work and re-re-re joined his old chum Stan in 2008, with whom he has been playing on and off for the last 42 years. He tells me that even after an approach by the Guiness book of Records he intends to remain with Chicken Shack from now on. |

Gary Davis - Guitar |
Born in 1950, Gary has always lived in the Midlands and played with numerous bands over the years. In 1988 whilst working in a local music store, he was asked to play with the band after Stan damaged his hand during a tour of Italy. On their return Stan asked Gary to join Chickenshack on a permanent basis and who has since played on many albums, co-writing some material. |

Jim Rudge - Bass |
Born in 1971 to a musical family, Jim played many different instruments until he took up the bass guitar at age 16. Initially he played in small jazz and blues bands, eventually joining a Wolverhampton based indie band in 1986. After some success in the late 80’s and early 90’s, Jim settled down to a life of 9 to 5 working in I.T. After a phone call came out of the blue from Stan Webb in 1998 he joined Chickenshack and is now in his 10th year with the band. Known for his flamboyant and dynamic bass playing, Jim’s style encompasses many influences and techniques. |
